Air Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwean national airline, resumed flights on the Harare-Dar es Salaam route on 4th June 2016.
The airline will operate flights to Dar es Salaam 2 times per week, Tuesday and Saturday, with its Airbus A320.
Jorum Gumbo, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development said that the re-entry of Air Zimbabwe will strengthen the economic relations between Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Edzai Chimonyo, Zimbabwe’s High Commissioner to Tanzania added that there has been an increase in traffic between the two countries since 2008, mainly of businessmen, tourists, government officials, and informal traders.
Direct flights on the Harare-Dar es Salaam route are also offered by Fastjet and Hahn Air, while Kenya Airways offers a connecting flight via Nairobi.
The route was suspended in May 2009 due to operational challenges faced by the airline. However, customers had been requesting Air Zimbabwe to relaunch this particular route.
